How To Troubleshoot Network Connection – IP Address Conflict

When BIOXCESS TA shows "FAIL" on Connection Status, the first thing you do is to ping the IP Address of the reader, eg. 192.168.1.103.

If the Ping result shows a Reply, it means the reader's IP address conflicts with another device on the network.

To check if an IP Address conflict has occurred, follow these steps:

  • 1) On the computer, open Command Prompt and type ping 192.168.1.103 -t, then press Enter
  • 2) At the same time, use a paperclip to press the reset button on the reader to restart it (this action will not erase data). You may contact your vendor to find out where the Reset button is located
  • 3) During the reader's restart, the command prompt should show Request Timed Out
  • 4) If the command prompt still shows a reply from 192.168.1.103 during the restart, it confirms that another device is using the same IP address
  • 5) In this case, you will need to assign a new IP address to your reader
  • 6) You can use Command Prompt to check if the new IP Address is free to use by pinging the desired IP Address, eg. 192.168.1.201. If you receive a reply, it means the IP Address is already in use. If there is no reply, the IP Address is free to use
  • If your reader is connected to the network with a network cable, you can update the new IP Address to 192.168.1.201 by going to MENU -> COMM -> ETHERNET -> IP ADDRESS. Please refer here
  • If your reader is connected to the network through Wi-Fi, you can update the new IP Address to 192.168.1.201 by going to MENU -> COMM -> WIRELESS NETWORK -> ADVANCED -> IP ADDRESS. Please refer here
  • 7) If the network connection is successful, go to your computer, run BIOXCESS TA Software
  • 8) Go to the following: Device Setup -> TERMINAL SETUP
  • 9) Double click on your device, update IP Address or host to 192.168.1.201 (Please disregard the IP Address shown in the picture above), then Save
